Expert Collecting Guide, State Licensed Python Hunter and Big Time ALA speaker/friend Armando Pou will be there to provide his many years of collecting experience on the tour. ALA/GCAS will provide transportation, collecting equipment, holding buckets, and most importantly experienced guides. The final stop will be a free BBQ for all convention registrants. | ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION WORKSHOP | ![]() |
| SATURDAY APRIL 28, 2012 4:30 PM | |
| The AI workshop will consist of two sections. At the
beginning Dr. Levine will give a short (20 minutes) introduction to AI. He will
give a detailed presentation of what will happen in the later demonstration.
This presentation will be for all participants at once. The actual, hands on, table demonstrations part will be held in a smaller room to fit a group of 4-5 in order for participants to see the process close up.The workshop focus will be on milking the males to teach participates how to obtain sperm packets from the male swords. The objective here is for the hobbyist/breeder to be able to determine whether their prized male or young and potentially immature male, (which has so far failed to impregnate females), is actually a fertile male. Also as time and equipment permit, there will be attempts to inseminate live females in the workshop. The injecting sperm into the female, especially if the female is small and has not given birth previously can be challenging. Hopefully students will gain enough knowledge from the workshop to be able to successfully inseminate a female at home. Seating is very limited, only first 25-30 registered for the workshop will be able to participate in hands on demonstration. |
